In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about an exciting (or maybe terrifying) new development from Instagram and Meta: the ability to create AI versions of yourself for social media interaction.
AI in the News
Instagram is starting to let some creators make AI chatbot versions of themselves, thanks to Meta’s new AI Studio tool. This is an early test being rolled out in the US, as announced by Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg shared that users might start seeing AIs from their favorite creators and interest-based AIs in the coming weeks on Instagram. These AI chatbots will primarily show up in messaging for now and will be clearly labeled as AI to avoid any confusion.
Zuckerberg explained that they’ve been working closely with creators to build these AIs so they’re helpful in answering questions from followers and can chat in a way that’s useful and fun. It’s still early days, and they plan to keep improving these AIs and making them available to more people soon. Eventually small businesses will be able to create their own AI to interact with their communities and customers.

Lots of Special Purpose AI Tools
Meta believes people will want to interact with a range of different AIs that reflect diverse interests. Instead of having a single AI assistant, you could have multiple AIs tailored to different needs and interests. Zuckerberg also mentioned that Meta will allow people to create AI characters that aren’t necessarily representations of themselves, adding even more flexibility.
This vision aligns with what Zuckerberg discussed last year when Meta announced its Meta AI assistant and celebrity-themed chatbots. Now that AI Studio is in testing, we’ll see if people really want to chat with AI versions of their favorite creators.
But it’s important to note that while this technology offers exciting possibilities, there are still challenges. Ensuring the accuracy and appropriateness of AI responses is crucial to maintain trust and credibility. Your goal is to build know, like and trust with your authentic brand and AI is not quite there yet.

But the bottom line is this: Watch this space as AI chatbots could become a powerful tool for businesses to enhance their online presence and engagement.
