Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you.
In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode we’re talking about some new features in Instagram that you should be using this year.
Bob: That’s right Donna. Instagram has been looking over its shoulder at the popularity of TikTok, and adding new features to try and keep up.
Donna: Right. Reels is the Instagram short form video format, and it’s now being promoted within the Facebook feed as well, but Stories are still very popular and one new feature that is now available to everyone is adding a link to your stories.
Bob: That’s great because you can now add a link to your website or other call to action on your Instagram content.
Donna: Another new feature you should be using is captions on your video. This feature automatically converts what someone says into text so that users can watch without sound. And this is important because more people are now watching videos without sound in their feed.
Bob: Social media is all about engagement, and one new way that you can get your users engaged is the “Add Yours” sticker. “Add Yours” is a sticker for Instagram stories. It’s fairly simple. You write a prompt like “show us your pet” or something related to your product and share it to your story. Then other users can respond with their pictures. When you click on the sticker, you can view everyone who responded.
Donna: Another tactic for more engagement If you create short-form videos on Instagram Reels, is to make visual replies to comments, this is similar to TikTok’s reply function. You’re replying to a Reel with another Reel.
Bob: These are just a few of the new features on Instagram that you’ll want to start experimenting with. Think of what is going to be most engaging to your ideal audience and give it a try.
Donna: The bottom line is this. Video marketing is here to stay so make this year the year you figure out how to incorporate more video into your social media.
