Welcome to the Get Digital Marketing Results podcast where we give you information and actionable tips to grow your organization.
Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you.
In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode we’re discussing how using a story to talk about your product or service makes it more relatable to your audience.
Bob: That’s right Donna. Of course you need a website that works well across all devices, that loads quickly, and has up to date information, but how are you going to get your business noticed online by the right audience? Storytelling has been a marketing buzzword for a while, but we agree that you need to “Tell Your Story Online” so that you’re building relationships with your audience.
Donna: And it is all about your audience. Many people get storytelling wrong by focusing on the features of their product or service. What you want to consider is your audience. Why will they care? Remember that statistics and data don’t make you relatable, you also have to appeal to your audience’s emotions.
Bob: Make sure you are focusing on your most important offerings and what they stand for. You are trying to establish a consistent voice and brand for your business, and you want to make sure you are using it on your website. You own and control the story on your own domain. Use the “rented land” of social media to promote your story, but build your web presence on your own land.
Donna: As you’re creating your content, remember, a picture is worth a 1000 words. But video is priceless. The camera has become the new keyboard. If you do nothing else, learn how to use your smartphone camera and video to capture the story of your business. This can be customers, events, new products, tips, how to’s, success stories, meet the team, but people love visuals and video today.
Bob: People buy products or services from you for a reason. Every day when you meet with customers you tell them stories. Tell them online in a conversational tone that shows who you are. Your company’s story, a personal story, or a product’s story makes us think differently about your product or service and can enhance the value we perceive.
Donna: In our always connected world, your customers and prospects increasingly go online first. Even when someone is referred to you, they’re likely to Google you prior to contacting you. You can unify your online and real life business stories to give your customers a better experience.
