The foundation of any good marketing plan is understanding your ideal client. Think about the customers you want more of. What are their concerns and pain points? What do they need and want from a business like yours? Most importantly, what questions are you answering for them every day?

We are exposed to so much information every day, we’ve all gotten very good at tuning out anything we don’t think is relevant to us. So all your marketing should be focused on the point of view of the customer you want more of.
When you know what their questions are, their pain points and what they desire, take a good look at your current online presence — your website, your email communications, your Google Business Profile and social media.
Ask yourself: Does this content address your ideal client’s needs and wants? Is the information up-to-date? Are there gaps, things missing or unclear, that might be turning potential customers away?
Here’s the big insight: When you understand what your clients care about, you can create a plan that speaks directly to them. That’s what gets results.

Action Steps for Successful Marketing in 2025
To get started, here are three action steps for you:
- Spend five minutes and write down as many of the questions you get and explanations you give to potential clients on a regular basis. What are the top five?
- Audit your website and social media to see if those questions are being answered.
- Make a list of any content gaps you notice — those are things for you to add or update this year.
Once you’ve done this, you’ll have a clear picture of what your content should focus on and what needs improvement. In the next episode, we’ll talk about where to publish your content and how to make sure it gets seen by the right people.
