In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode we’re talking about using captions on your video, so that your message gets across with or without sound.
Bob: That’s right Donna. This makes it easier for users who are hard of hearing or deaf, but it also offers a way for users to watch videos when they don’t want to have their sound on.
Donna: True, studies show that most users scroll through social media without turning on audio on videos. Adding text to your video is worth it, but Instagram is actually making it easy too. They’re rolling out a new “captions sticker” for use with Stories and Reels. You record a new video in the Instagram app, or select a video to upload from your phone’s gallery. Then, open the sticker tray and look for the new “Captions” sticker, which will convert your speech to text for you.
Bob: I like that you can edit the style, position of the caption, the text and color as well. When you are finished your video, the captions appear alongside your video for everyone to see.
Donna: Instagram already uses this feature for captions on IGTV, but expanding to Stories and Reels will make more of an impact. Instagram Stories, for example, are used by more than 500 million people every day.
If your business isn’t creating videos, you’re missing out on many opportunities to connect with your customers. This new Instagram feature makes creating video messages simpler and easier. Remember you can also save the video of your stories and use it in other places as well.
Bob: That’s it for today’s episode. You can find a link to the TechCrunch article and a transcript of today’s podcast, at DelosInc.com/189.
