Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about some things local businesses can do to get found this holiday season.
Bob: That’s right Donna. Last week we talked about how holiday shopping was going to look a bit different this year, and this week we’re going to discuss some things that local businesses can try and do to get more business.
Donna: Yes, Bob, today is Amazon Prime Day, but surveys show that most people want to support their local businesses this holiday season too.
Bob: We like local business too, so we’re sharing an article from Moz that has 8 tips for Local SEO for the holidays.
Donna: You can check out the whole article, but we want to highlight 3 tips for you. The most important is to make sure you are communicating regularly with up to date information on all your channels – your website, your social media and your email marketing, signage in your stores.
Fluid conditions means there is a lot of uncertainty right now and it is frustrating when you are trying to get something and you don’t know if it is available, when are they open? What are their procedures? Can I order ahead? Having all that information clear and upfront with people is the most important thing you can do.
Bob: That’s right, that communication and transparency is key, and the next tip we have is to make sure you are telling the story of who you are. Awareness is one thing, but people have to also like you to want to do business with you. So they need to know who you are, and what you are about. Not everyone is your customer, but demonstrating affinity with the things your customer cares about, helps turn customers into fans.
Donna: The third tip we want to share is to get creative, With so many of your customers housebound, anything that your business can do to support activities and deliver supplies for hometime fun is something worth considering. There’s a local pizza shop that had a kit available to make your own pie at home. Bon Jung Sushi, our local Japanese restaurant offers a do-it-yourself Temaki kit where you make your own Temaki rolls at home. We had a lot of fun making those. So now is a time to think out of the box and try new things, and don’t be afraid to tell your customers that you want their support and that it’s important to support local businesses.
