In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about online events. Facebook announced a new product to monetize classes and online events called simply, “Paid Online Events.” The new all-in-one tool will be free for at least a year, because Facebook wants to help small businesses survive the COVID-19 crisis — and make money.

Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about online events.
Bob: They are here to stay.
Donna: Yes, in the before times (as I like to call pre-covid), you might have held a seminar, a cooking class, or some type of fundraising event in person. Now, Zoom has become very popular, LinkedIn has added live video events and Facebook has seen an increase in the use of Facebook Lives.
Bob: And now Facebook is taking it one step further by offering small businesses the ability to run paid online events through their platform.
Donna: This all-in-one tool is free for at least the next year if you want to experiment. It allows hosting, promotion, ticket sales and payment processing for your event in one place.
Bob: So you can create the event, promote it to your followers, or through ads and collect payments through Facebook. Facebook has been testing with creators, hosting expert talks, trivia events, cooking classes, boxing matches, fitness classes, and much more.
Donna: There are a lot of online platforms for holding events right now in new and different ways. There’s never been a better time to experiment with new ways to stay connected to your audience.
