Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about a potentially game-changing delivery technology brought to you by Amazon.
Bob: That’s right, it sure will be. It’s a six wheeled delivery robot! And it has a name, Scout!
Donna: Well we’ve talked about drone deliveries a few months back, and this is the next best thing. With the current COVID crisis, interest in this technology has increased again, and companies are looking for ways to minimize human contact as the demand for home deliveries booms. Now Scout’s still a prototype, and they only have six of them right now, and Amazon has been testing them in a few southern markets.
Bob: These Scout delivery devices are built to be really safe. They’re about the size of a small cooler and move at a walking pace. Each delivery device can navigate around pets, pedestrians, trash cans, and other objects in its path. But they’re not totally on their own right now, they do have an Amazon employee watching over them.
Donna: That’s right. For now, they’re accompanied by a human, and Amazon is calling these humans, “Amazon Scout Ambassadors”, and they travel with the robot at walking speed as they make deliveries during daylight hours right now.
Bob: So it works like this. The Scouts are loaded up in vans and brought to neighborhoods where they make their deliveries. The Amazon employee puts your package in the Scout, and programs it to stop in front of your house, where you’ll be notified to go out and get your package. And then, the top of the Scout will automatically open for you, and you can grab your package.
Donna: So wave to the Scout Ambassador and the Scout robot if you see it, and your safe and contactless delivery is done. We’ll include a short video in the article so you can check out Scout.
Bob: That’s it for today’s episode. You can find the link to TheVerge.com article, plus the Scout video, and a transcript of today’s podcast at DelosInc.com/148. And don’t forget to subscribe, so you don’t miss out on our actionable digital marketing tips to grow your organization.
