Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday, the Coronavirus edition, we’re going to talk about five things you could be doing right now to help your business in these uncertain times.
We hope everyone is staying safe and well and let’s first acknowledge that this is really hard for just about everyone right now. We can’t change the circumstances we’re in, but we can choose what we are going to do about them.
So think about all those things that you said would be good for your business to accomplish, but at some time in the future since there was too much day to day happening. Well guess what? The future is banging down your door right now.
Bob: That’s right Donna. We may be practicing social distancing, but social distancing means physical distance. Not having all those things we used to do in person, doesn’t mean that we can’t continue to build relationships with our customers and our prospects online.
The first tip we have for you is to communicate regularly and transparently. If you haven’t been consistent in your communications, especially with email marketing and social media, now is the time to start. You need to remind people that you are still around.
Donna: The second tip is to take some time to plan. If you have down time right now use this opportunity to do some strategic thinking about who your ideal audience is and what problems they have. Think about how you solve these problems for them, and what products or services you offer, and what you can share with them. Work on your business so you’ll be in a good spot whenever we get back to the new normal.
Bob: The third thing to do is to position yourself for now and the future. Use this time to up your customer experience and streamline your operations.
Have you been meaning to get all those contacts into your email system or CRM? How about taking payments on your website? What’s it like to do business with you on a mobile phone—can you improve it? There are short term actions you may need to take, but try to do things that will position you for the future as well.
Donna: The fourth thing you should do is to create content. If you have an editorial calendar start batching and planning ahead for later in the year so that when you’re busier you have your content ready to go. If you have more time now to write blogs and other contents, get them all ready to go in the queue.
It’s a great time to update your portfolio, make sure your website is aligned with your message, and plan campaigns for later in the year. Take pictures and videos of your products. Create social media posts and emails. All of these can be created now and scheduled out over time.
Bob: Our last tip is to experiment. There’s never been a better time to try new things. Doing video for example, video is so important in marketing right now. A lot of people are scared to get on the camera; they’re not quite sure they’re going to do it right.
The major TV networks have their talent working in makeshift home studios right now. You have a pass right now to experiment because everyone is learning and trying new things. You’ll never know if you can make it work if you don’t give it a try.
Donna: To sum up, try to see the opportunities that may be here and take advantage of them. Communicate consistently with your audience and also plan to take some time to plan. Keep on keeping positive and take care of yourself and stay healthy!
