Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re talking about a HubSpot article on 15 Essential Social Media Tips. These tips are grouped from Beginner to Advanced.
There’s lots of actionable items you can do to make sure your social media strategy is on target. We’re going to run through the beginner ones and then we’ll touch on a couple of the intermediate and advanced tips. These tips build on one another to a certain extent so it’s always best to have the basics covered first.
Bob: We’ll link to the article with all the tips in the show notes.
Donna: Right. Now, the first tip we’re going to talk about is to sync your posts across all social media accounts. It’s perfectly fine to use the same message on multiple platforms. As a matter of fact, it’s preferable. You never know where some might see you and repetition builds familiarity, too.
Plus, you probably don’t have time to come up with a different strategy and message for each platform independently.
Bob: To save time and make it easier on yourself, there’s lots of tools that you can use to schedule your posts to multiple platforms at one time. Buffer and Promo Republic are a couple that we use. You can also schedule your Facebook and Instagram posts right within the Facebook Creator Studio, if you don’t want an additional tool.
Donna: You’ll want to make sure you you create an editorial calendar so you plan your posts most effectively.
Bob: An editorial calendar is great to use with the second tip, too. Republish and update older content. There are definitely key messages and information about your business that is evergreen. Go ahead and schedule those into your calendar multiple times throughout the year. People may miss it the first time, may need a reminder and hopefully you also have new followers who’ve never seen it before.
Donna: It’s good to mix up when you are posting too. Our next tip is to not be afraid to schedule posts for evenings or weekends. If your audience is in a different time zone, or more likely to be looking for your content during their leisure time, add some of these times to your posting calendar.
Bob: The next tip is to use hashtags to increase engagement. Hashtags are a way for people to follow certain topics, so do some research and see what hashtags are being used in content of interest to your audience. This is particularly important for Instagram and Twitter and we talked a few episodes ago about how LinkedIn is now letting you add default hashtags for your company page. Hashtags help expand your reach beyond people who already know you.
Donna: The last beginner tip is to use visuals whenever possible. You should always include a picture, a video, or graphic in your post whenever you can. There’s online services like Canva that have some templates and let you easily create really cool things. Take more of your own pictures too. Practice = Improvement and you’ll start getting better results.
If you’ve got these tips covered, check out the article for intermediate social marketing tips like using interactive content like polls and upping your visual content game. Some of the advanced tips include customizing content for every social media platform, running promotions, and using new apps and updates to your advantage. Have you experimented with Tik Tok yet?
This is a process, so see what tips you can implement to take your social media to the next level for better results.
