Bob: Hi I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you.
In today’s Tech News Tuesday tip, we have a resource from Tech Smith on creating job aids. If you want your marketing to take less time, you need to have good processes and checklists.
Bob: One of the things we hear most often from our customers is that they don’t have enough time to implement an effective digital marketing strategy.
Donna: And they’re right! One of the keys to successful digital marketing is consistency, but you can’t be consistent if you don’t make the marketing tactics part of your every day operation. If you think that you’re going to add on marketing after everything else you normally do, it means you’ll never have enough time. But, making it part of what you do every day requires having a coordinated plan and repeatable processes. This makes it easier to implement your plan.
Bob: Checklists and job aids can be great for those things you don’t need to do every day, but need to get right. For example, if you are syncing your email marketing with your CRM and you are not automating it, recording a video of the how to steps, or creating a checklist of steps… will save time when you need to do it – and you’ll get everything right the first time.
There’s a saying which I think is true – if you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?
And you don’t have to be fancy about it, just be clear about what the steps are. The next time you do something, record yourself or write down the steps while you are doing it.
Donna: Having a checklist means you don’t have to think about it every time you do something. When you go to publish a blog for example, if you want to do best practices, you’ll need to think about what’s my word count? Is the URL and title SEO friendly? Did you add alt tags to the pictures? Are you chossing the right category, tags, and author? Did you select a featured image?Did you write a good search engine snippet? and have someone else proof the whole thing? It’s really easy to forget a step and as a result you will not get the best result you could from that post. A checklist also makes it easier to train someone else to do what you are doing. If you document the things you are doing and find it is time to hire or outsource some work to someone else you’ll have a training manual that’s ready to go.
Bob: The planning, organizing and processes around an effective digital marketing strategy are so important to success.
We spend a lot of time helping our customers get organized and implement digital marketing that gets results.
