Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re thinking about opening back up for business again, and how does your business change when social distancing might not be going away anytime soon? CVS and UPS have teamed up to offer residential drone delivery of prescriptions in the Florida retirement community, The Villages, so that residents have a no-contact way of getting their medications.
Bob: Well yes, CVS is getting really creative using this drone technology, and I think it’s time that small businesses have to experiment a little bit as well. We still have to protect our customers and our workers because of the virus, but it’s a good time right now to think about upping your game so to speak.
Donna: Right. We all want to be open for business, but to have our customers feel comfortable with it. So in the age of social distancing a lot of businesses have put into place things like no-contact pick up, delivery options or shipping options, take out where it wasn’t available. And so what are some of the ways that your business has adapted and what should you be looking at doing in order to make the customer experience good and your business good, but to still maintain safe social distancing?
Bob: Well Donna, we talked a lot about this last week in regards to video and video meetings. Zoom is a great platform, many people have been using that, and there’s also some other great tools out there from Google, called Google Meet, and Microsoft Teams. It’s just a really good way for businesses to really build those personal relationships even though you are on video.
Donna: Right, if we can’t meet in person safely. I wanted to tell you that Google Meet, they just announced that they’re going to be free for all users, not just people who have a paid G Suite account. So that’s another option for people who are looking to do group meetings or one-on-one meetings with their customers.
Bob: That’s great!
Donna: So another thing you should be looking at is your website. Can you complete a transaction with you online? Can you take online payments? Are there forms? Can you do online signatures? Can you place an order online? There’s a lot of things that we have now shifted to e-commerce, that previously we did in person. Now the trend e-commerce has been going on for a long time, but this situation has really accelerated the amount of time that we spend online, as well as how much business and purchasing we’re doing online.
Bob: Yeah, speaking about that, in regards to your website, what about those chatbots we’re seeing a lot now? It’s a great form of personalized conversations that robots can actually be doing for us.
Donna: Right, the key is to try to answer the common questions and things like that and direct you to a person when you can, but there’s a lot of potential on answering those basic questions and directing you to those online order forms as well.
Bob: And I hear they’re easy to build on your website and it just kind of depends on really what you want to achieve, but you can design a simple chatbot today on Facebook without any type of programming experience.
Donna: Right, so the barrier to entry is not too high, and as we said before, it’s a really good time to start experimenting with new things. Our business and the new normal is going to be different for a long time, so is the virtual you showing up the way that you need to?
