Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re going to talk about a new type of advertising format that’s on the horizon.
The music app, Pandora has been testing interactive ads that allow listeners to respond to the ad by speaking aloud. In the new ads, listeners are prompted to say “yes” after the ad asks a question.
Bob: What? That’s crazy, but it does sound pretty cool.
It’s still in testing so only a small subset of listeners using the Pandora app are actually hearing them, and they start off by explaining what they are and how they work. Then they play a short and simple message followed by a yes or no question. So if you say yes, you’ll get more information about the product or service the advertiser is offering. Say no, and the music continues.
Donna: A couple of brands are testing right now are Wendy’s and DiGiorno’s Pizza. Wendy’s asks listeners if they’re hungry. If they say yes, the ad continues and offers them a recommendation about what to eat.
The DiGiorno’s Pizza ad asks listeners to say “yes” to hear the punchline of a pizza-themed joke.
This type of ad format works with Pandora’s Voice Assistant. As we’ve talked about before, the voice assistant is becoming a lot more important since consumers are now much more comfortable talking to Siri, Alexa and Google.
It’ll be interesting to see how everyone reacts to these voice advertisements.
Bob: That’s it for today’s episode. You can find the link to the article and a transcript of today’s podcast at DelosInc.com/117.
