We like this article because it really reinforces a lot of the things that we’ve been talking about. Consistent content saves you time, it gives you an established content structure and format, and it sets expectations for your audience.
Consistency builds traction.
Bob: So what is this consistent content thing? Think of it as an expected regular feature. An example in the article is the Dear Abby advice column. For those who don’t remember the old days when people read paper newspapers, the advice column ran on certain days and people became accustomed to looking for it and reading it. The late night television shows that always start off with a host monologue is another example of an expected regular feature.
Donna: For those of you who are familiar with our editorial calendar process, you know that we often recommend your calendar include repeating features. Maybe it’s a product of the month spotlight, or every quarter we’re going to do a meet the team member, or showcase a client, or have a Q&A. If you sell food products, a recipe of the week would be a great idea.
Bob: Yes Donna, those sort of things give you the ability to come up with the structure, format, and a template that makes it easy for you to populate stuff, as well as getting your audience hooked on this recurring feature that you do.
