WordPress 4.8, coming out in June, is introducing a whole new way of working with widgets.
A WordPress Widget is a small block that performs a specific function. You’ll see them in your sidebars or homepage. These were originally designed to provide a simple way to add design to your site that you controlled.
Previously, in order to get anything done with widgets, you would have to input HTML code. However, WordPress has given the widget a facelift, and you will no longer be required to use HTML code to format your widget!
As you see in the image below, this widget gives the ability to update the style with bold or italics, add a bulleted or numbered list, and a hyperlink, with the option of still adding HTML code just as you would be able to do on a post.
They are also rolling out three new widgets with this latest release:
- Image Widget
- Video Widget
- Audio Widget
Look forward to seeing these updates in the upcoming WordPress 4.8 release.
