Bob: Hi, I’m Bob Clark.
Donna: And I’m Donna Botti. We’re with Delos Inc and we make the web work for you. In today’s Tech News Tuesday episode, we’re discussing a Moz article on how to network online at events.
Bob: For many of our clients and friends, networking and building business relationships is crucial, and conferences, and networking meetings, and all kinds of in-person events, has been traditionally one of the best ways to get new business.
Donna: That was in what I am calling “The Before Times.”
Bob: Yes, but is it still possible to develop relationships online, and many conferences are opting for virtual events instead of canceling them. The challenge is how to network at these online events, as opposed to passively watching like you do a recorded video.
Donna: Yeah the article gives some tips on how to do this. First, investigate what interactive options are going to be available for the event. There’s lots of new tools and technologies out there. So it might be a chat feature or, ability to raise your hand and join in a live Q&A, maybe they’re separate discussion zones or Zoom breakout rooms on a particular topic where, “birds of a feather” can interact. Second, make sure that you were then active in these discussions. Be prepared to add your comments and insights to ask questions or to share resource links that the group might be interested in.
Bob: And third, follow up. Add the people you’ve interacted with on social media. And that can be LinkedIn, or Instagram, or Twitter, and reach out to follow up one-on-one with those you want to develop relationships with.
Donna: We’re all adapting to this new normal, but that doesn’t mean you have to stop building business relationships. It’s new and it’s different, but just remember to have fun and be yourself.
Bob: That’s it for today’s episode. You can find the link to the Moz.com article and a transcript of today’s podcast at DelosInc.com/143. And don’t forget to subscribe so you don’t miss out on our actionable digital marketing tips to grow your organization.
